Job Description
Overview
A Veterinary / Livestock Officer is an agricultural and animal health professional responsible for safeguarding animal welfare, preventing disease outbreaks, and improving livestock productivity. They work closely with farmers to provide technical guidance, administer treatments, and promote sustainable livestock management practices.Â
Core Responsibilities
- Animal Health & Disease Control: Conduct routine vaccinations, disease surveillance, and treatments for sick animals. Enforce biosecurity measures and quarantine protocols to prevent the spread of zoonotic and transboundary diseases.
- Extension Services & Training: Educate farmers on modern animal husbandry, including proper feeding, breeding, housing, and milk or meat production. Facilitate community training and practical demonstrations.Â
- Data Collection & Reporting: Monitor livestock markets, collect production data, and compile technical reports on animal health trends and population dynamics.
- Breeding & Genetics: Advise on selective breeding programs and assist with livestock improvement initiatives.
- Regulatory Compliance: Enforce livestock movement regulations and inspect slaughterhouses or animal products to ensure compliance with public health and safety standards
